New fiction by Afghan women
Stories by 18 writers from the Write Afghanistan project were published in the UK on 17 February 2022 in My Pen Is the Wing of a Bird: New Fiction by Afghan Women (MacLehose Press).
My Pen Is the Wing of a Bird is a landmark collection: the first anthology of short fiction by Afghan women. Eighteen writers tell stories that are both unique and universal – stories of family, work, childhood, friendship, war, gender identity and cultural traditions.
With an Introduction by Lyse Doucet and an Afterword by Lucy Hannah.
What we do
Support emerging writers
We provide support to develop writers' skills and connect them to each other, online and within their communities. We believe all writers should be able to tell their own stories, in their own voices.
Contribute to local creative industries
We connect and support emerging literary editors and translators, to contribute to the development of local cultural landscapes.
Reach new audiences
We build audiences for writers we have supported – both locally and globally – via different platforms and in various languages.
